Today, one in fourteen Minnesotans rely upon local food shelves to help feed their families. Minnesota farmers are struggling too, but we’re pitching in to help hungry families around the state. And the result is Minnesota Farmers Helping Families.
Minnesota Farmers Helping Families is a joint effort by the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, Minnesota Pork Board and Minnesota Milk Producers Association. This is not a government program; the group is directly funded by Minnesota farmers. We’re donating Minnesota-produced pork and dairy products to Hunger Solutions Minnesota to help restock food shelves across the state with high quality, high protein foods.
These pork and dairy products are healthy, wholesome, and economical. They’re easy to use for quick delicious meals that can help grow a healthy family.
Minnesota farmers take pride in their communities.
Almost all Minnesota farms are family-owned. As active members of our communities, we take the job of feeding a growing population seriously as we to try to grow more and more food on less and less land. That means preserving the land where we live and work, protecting the air and water we share with our neighbors, and providing the best care for our animals and our land.
You could say farmers care about protecting our natural resources more than anyone - after all - our livelihoods and the livelihood of future generations depend on it. We work to preserve the fertility of the land by using sound and sustainable agricultural practices. And we continually adopt new on-farm practices to reduce our environmental footprint.
Farmers who raise pigs and dairy cows invest in new technologies that provide environmental protection by assuring the valuable nutrients in livestock manure is used locally as soil fertilizer to grow crops. We also use new research in dairy farm management to control odors associated with raising livestock.
